Technology

All students, staff, faculty, and departments are responsible for the printing of their own materials. Please visit the Library Services Desk for printing assistance. 

NOTE: All large format printing must be completed 30 minutes prior to close. Plotters will be unavailable for use at that time and will resume upon opening the following day.

Plotting Instructions

Before you print on the plotters:

Step 1: Delete Old Plotter Drivers from Printer Server

  1. Open Control Panel
    • Type "Control Panel" into the Windows search bar OR hold the Windows + R keys and type in "Control Panel"
  2. Click "Devices and Printers" or "View Devices and Printers" 
    • You can view "Devices and Printers" more easily by changing the "View by: Category" in the upper right to "View by: Large Icons" 
  3. Right click on the Library-z6810 plotter 
  4. Click "Remove Device"
  5. Click "Yes"
  6. Repeat steps 3-5 with the Library-Pagewide4700 plotter 
  7. Close out of Control Panel

Note: The printer server (\\printers.wit.edu) should only be used for Follow Me printing and other non-plotter printing.  

Step 2: Install New Plotter Server 

  1. Right click on your desktop
  2. Click "New"
  3. Click "Shortcut"
  4. Type \\plotters.wit.edu
  5. Click "Next"
    • Do NOT click "Browse"
  6. Click "Finish"
  7. Move the desktop shortcut to where you'd like it to be placed on your desktop screen

Note: This should install a shortcut on your desktop (like the Wentworth Printers shortcut) that allows you to find all plotter drivers easily on the new plotter server. For additional help installing the plotter drivers, see below:

  • Installing Plotters on a PC (select the "Library-PagewideXL4700" or "Library-designjetz6810" printer)
  • For Mac users: Please contact Tech Spot or print to the plotters by using the Library's public PC desktops.

Step 3: Install New Plotter Driver

  1. Open plotters.wit.edu shortcut
  2. Find Library-designjetz6810
  3. Double click to install
  4. Repeat steps 2-3 with Library-PagewideXL4700
  5. Close plotter shortcut

Note: Steps 1 and 2 will only have to be completed once. Step 3 will only need to be repeated if installing a new plotter driver.

Printing on the Plotters:

Step 1: Prepare to Print

  1. Make sure Papercut is open
  2. Save your file as a PDF
  3. Open your file in Adobe Acrobat

Step 2: Select Your Printer

  1. In the print menu, from the Printer Drop Down, select the plotter that best fits your needs:
    • Library-PagewideXL4700: for general use; best for schematics and low ink use
    • Library-designjetz6810: Glossy paper; for ink-heavy prints

Step 3: Change the Paper Size

  1. Select "Properties"
  2. Select desired paper size from the dropdown menu 
  3. Once you have selected your size, select "OK"
    • Unsure of what size?
      • Arch A: 9inches x 12inches
      • Arch B: 12inches x 18inches
      • Arch C: 18inches x 24inches
      • Arch D: 24inches x 36inches
      • Arch E: 36inches x 48inches

Step 4: Double-Check Your Print

  1. Under Page Sizing & Handling, make sure "Fit" is selected
  2. Ensure that the print preview looks correct
  3. Click "Print"

Step 5: Release your print

  1. Go to the Mezzanine level of the library
  2. Go to the plotter print release station
  3. Tap your Wentworth ID and select your print for release
