Thrive Guide: Tips for Thriving in Life after Wentworth

Knowing Your Work Style

Congratulations – you landed a job (or, you’re about to)! Your co-op experiences have prepared you for the working world, but as you embark on your first post-graduate position, it is important to remember/think about your work style.

Why should you care about your work style? It is easy to get swept up in the culture of an organization, or to feel like you are a cog in the wheel of something larger than yourself. It is also easy to devote yourself to your work – you’re excited for this new chapter of life – you don’t have homework anymore! Your organization may not have great work-life balance or your supervisor might not be the best communicator. What am I getting at? You need to advocate for yourself, and knowing who you are and what you need is the first step.

Personal and Professional Development

The term professional development may be used about a wide variety of specialized training, formal education, or advanced professional learning intended to help individuals improve their professional knowledge, competence, skill, and effectiveness.
