HUMN 4200: The Roman City Project

This guide will help direct you to resources for researching and creating your Roman city. Please note that this guide is not comprehensive; there are more resources out there that you may find and want to use in your research. Updated Spring 2020.

Additional Resources for Scholarly Materials

You may find most of the scholarly materials you need via the library catalog; however, you may find yourself wanting to dig a little deeper in some of the library's more specialized databases.

Find Scholarly Articles & eBooks

Search the Library catalog for e-books, articles, physical books and journals, and more:

Advanced Search

Some helpful tips:

  • Make sure you limit your search results to "Academic Journals" or "Peer-Reviewed"  if you are seeking out those types of resources (select these options along the left-hand side of the catalog page).
  • For this assignment, try searching the catalog with keywords relevant to your topic. For example, if you are looking for information about Roman aqueducts, try searching the catalog using the words Rome OR Roman AND aqueducts. If you're looking for information about the provinces in Asia Minor, try searching using the words Rome OR Roman AND "Asia Minor."

*The operator AND makes it so you search for this AND that.

*The operator OR makes it so you search Term 1 OR Term 2 (which gives you more results!).

*Using "quotes" around a phrase ensures that you search for the phrase "Asia Minor," rather than searching for resources that talk mention the words "Asia" and "minor" separately.
