Scope & Content Notes

Collection includes correspondence and reports about the development of department curricula, funding, and staffing, and salaries, the collection contains correspondence and reports on the operations of the Colleges, and the Accreditation Board for engineering and Technology.

Biography & History

The Office of the Provost was established in 1967 under President H. Russell Beatty. The first Provost of Wentworth Institute was Ronald J. Young (1967-1980). The Wentworth College of Technology did not have a provost from 1970-1975. Young assumed the duties for the College in 1976. In 1977, after the merger of the two schools, Young became the provost of the combined Wentworth Institute of Technology. Young was succeeded as follows:

Anthony L. Tilmans: 1984-1986
George T. Balich: 1988-2005
Kuei-wu Tsai: 2005-2007
Russell “Russ” Pinizzotto: 2007-2015
Eric Oberstrom: 2017-2019
Richard “Rich” Hansen (interim): 2015-2017, 2019-2020
Ian Lapp: 2020-2021
Joe Martel-Foley (associate): 2021-Present
Sophia Maggelakis: 2022-Present

Processing Notes

Staples and other metal materials were removed. Any plastic, rubber band, or taped material was separated from paper (when able to be separated without damaging the materials) and discarded. Duplicate, non-unique copies of materials were withdrawn from the collection. Acidic or photographic materials were kept in their original order but were re-housed in mylar sleeves or leafing folders. Duplicate folders were re-labeled, re-organized, and re-foldered. Materials were kept in the original folder order: alphabetical by topic, and then chronological within specific folders. Folders were placed in new letter document boxes.
