Newspapers can be Primary or Secondary Sources

If the newspaper story is a  first hand account of a topic or event it can be considered a primary source. If a newspaper story is an interpretation of an event from the past written later it can be considered a secondary source.

With a Boston Public Library (BPL) e-Card, which is free for all MA residents and students, you can access historical newspapers. Once you have registered you can go to the online resources page and start searching the newspapers.
